A Personal Welcome and Appreciation
Welcome to my blog, Barb4Council! I hope over the next few weeks I can earn your trust in allowing me to continue to represent Ward 4 and Lakeland Ridges. I first ran for Ward 4 councillor in the April 2025 by-election. Though brief, it has been valuable for understanding the role of a municipal councillor.
My Commitment and Experience
Councillors, as elected representatives, develop local policies, bylaws, and budgets to meet municipal needs, ensuring accountability, transparency, and open communication.
Despite my short tenure in the elected role, I have participated in the Environment and Waste Management Committee and oversaw the Finance Committee for Budget 2026. With staff leadership and oversight, we facilitated early discussions, preparation, public review, and approval within the timeframe set by the Municipalities Act of NB.
Local Reform and Lakeland Ridges
Lakeland Ridges was formed from the 2023 Local Reform, merging two municipalities and a Local Service District into one regional municipality with four wards. It has faced its fair share of challenges since its inception, and much work remains. I wish to stay involved in this process.
Continuing to Serve and Grow Lakeland Ridges
As an elected official, I am committed to transparency and communication, encouraging community questions. I seek clarification and verification when needed and dedicate myself to training to understand municipal governance and ensure financial oversight and accountability.
Why I Am Re-Offering to Represent You
I'm running again because my work has just begun. I believe in Lakeland Ridges' potential and in you, our residents. Managing a municipality requires collaboration and strong leadership to address immediate needs and set long-term growth objectives.
As a fairly new Councillor, I think I bring some innovative ideas from my own life and work that can energize our talks and decision-making. Looking at challenges with a fresh viewpoint, free from old habits and norms, is really crucial.
In conclusion, my role as a Councillor is not just about representing my constituents; but fostering an inclusive atmosphere where all voices are heard, so we can work together to create a brighter, more sustainable future for our community.
Let's view the 'status quo' as outdated. It's time to move forward.
I invite you to keep up with my blog/post, where I will provide insights and help clarify the Municipal Structure...
